If your artist used Dermshield on your tattoo
Dermshield acts as a breathable second skin, protecting your fresh tattoo while it starts to heal. Here’s how to take care of it:Keep the Dermshield on for 3–5 days unless it starts to feel uncomfortable — if it does, it’s okay to remove it sooner.
It’s water-resistant, not waterproof. Quick showers are fine, but no baths, pools, hot tubs, or soaking of any kind.
When it’s time to remove your Dermshield:
Run warm water over the area.
Gently lift a corner and stretch the film off slowly — never rip it off.
Wash the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap using clean hands.
For a traditional (non-Dermshield) heal
If you and your artist opted for a more traditional healing process:Wash your tattoo gently with warm water and antibacterial soap — always with clean hands.
Dry the area with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Avoid cloth towels, as they can carry bacteria.
Apply a thin layer of Aveno Daily Moisturizer Unscented or an unscented lotion. Remember: less is more — a light coat goes a long way.
Your new tattoo is a work of art. Following these steps helps ensure it heals clean, sharp, and ready to show off for years to come.
